How to get rid of heartburn? That is a very good question with a lot of different answers. First, what is a heartburn? This is a condition where acid from the stomach actually slowly goes up your esophagus which causes the burning sensation. If you are suffering from an occasional heartburn, then a lot of home remedies can be of use to you without being too much of an expense to your pockets.
Treatment 1: Keep standing UP
The first time you feel discomfort from this condition, it is only natural to seek the comfort of our bed, to lie down and crumple in pain. However, in this treatment you need to do the counter –intuitive. Stand up and let gravity do its job keeping your acids down. Ensure that you do not lie down for about 4 hours after eating to avoid the recurrence of heart burn.
Treatment 2: Aloe Juice Drink
Aloe Vera juice has an anti-inflammatory effect. Most of the time, people just use it for burns, you can use the juice to calm your stomach down. Just a precaution, though, this plant juice has a laxative side effect therefore if you are going to purchase it in commercial form make sure that you purchase the one with removed laxative effect.
Just take a half-cup of Aloe juice that has been cooled, depending upon your preference and drink it. Your stomach should settle thereafter.
Treatment 3: Consume Banana or Apple
These two fruits have natural antacids that can act as a neutralizer for acid reflux. Consuming one every day after letting them ripen will relieve pain and discomfort.
Treatment 4: Baking Soda
A heaping spoon of baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate as its other name, can neutralize the burning sensation as acid goes up during a heart burn. This means that when your acid goes up your esophagus, you would not get burned.
Simply mix in a single teaspoon of baking soda into an 8 ounce glass of water, and make sure that this is just the amount of water you will take. Stir it briskly and drink the entire concoction. Just a precaution, make sure that you do not exceed this treatment to three and a half teaspoon dose in a day and never exceed the treatment for a straight week. This mixture is high in salt and if taken in excess can have its own side effects.
These treatments are home based and easy to follow, however, it is also important to watch over your diet and lifestyle to prevent this condition. Smoking and drinking alcohol are a big no. Both have chemicals that are highly acidic and can trigger heartburn. The same is true for very spicy foods. If you can keep a record of the food you consume make sure to note the times that you experience heartburn. Eliminate any food from your list that can potentially trigger the condition. Exercise regularly and lastly, always keep active after eating.
